Tuscany is, in general, a safe area for families and babies. In Florence I suggest you to stay in central apartments to have the main attractions at few steps.  If you can rent a car you could sleep in some comfortable farmhouses in the countryside. Be sure owners will be able to provide high chairs, crib and so on. They used to be child friendly.

Dear Cristina, I can suggest you to stay in Certaldo, it' a small lovely town in the heart of Chianti region in the middle between Florence, Siena and Pisa and only 10 minutes driving from the famous San Gimignano!
Certaldo has an enchanting medieval town on top of hill - Certaldo Alto - still out off the beaten tracks, very peaceful and with breathtaking panoramic views on Tuscan countryside.
You can stay at Hotel Certaldo www.hotelcertaldo.it it's a lovely 4 stars hotel just renovated, it was and old mill belonged to the De' Medici family!
Hotel Certaldo staff can organise fo you: Wine and tipical Tuscan products tastings in farms, hot air balloon flights over Tuscan countryside (depending on the season and temperature), helicopter flights over Chianti region, funny Tuscan cooking lessons (and eat what you prepared!), horseriding, castels, museums and medieval towns visits, jogging paths, pic nic in the wonderful Tuscan countryside, truffle hunting, real Tuscan houses visits etc...
No car need to visit Florence, Siena and Pisa, it's very easy and cheap by train!
