Myself and four girlfriends will be travelling to Italy this summer for 10 days. We plan to begin in Venice for 2 days, then take the train to Florence for 2 days. We would like to then spend the rest of our time in Tuscany and on the coast. Do you suggest we rent a van to allow us to travel as we please in the region? You input and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We would also like to rent a villa for the week, if you can suggest any places. We will depart from Pisa.

I think you should absolutely rent a van. Your group is composed of 5 people so you can share the fee. Moreover, some Tuscany areas are not so easy to reach in short time (if you wish to visit many places). At Pisa Airport there are so many rent a car agencies!
Regarding the accommodation you can choose some lovely villas here http://www.tuscanyway.com/lang1/villas.html.
If you send an email with your budget and dates you can receive a reply with all the available villas (please note some villas are not published, it's enough you ask the area you wish to visit). Rental villas are usually on weekly basis.
