Hello. I have not been on the coast of Tuscana before, and are planning a possible vacation there this summer for two families. One possible destination is Viareggio. When I look at the beach it seems like it is heavily croded with chairs. How is the beach organized? Do you pay to visit? Are there any free areas? Best regards Peter

Dear Peter, Viareggio is in the Versilia area. This part of Tuscany coast is perfect for families as there are many attractions for adults and babies/children. The beach is normally plenty of beach club offering umbrellas, sun beds, services like self-service, restaurants, bar, swimming pools. It's quite hard to find free beaches however there are few. If you prefer this kind of beach I strongly suggest you to change area. Along Maremma coast (on south of Tuscany) you can find wide free beaches and the life is surely less expensive!
